The Six Thinking Hats

The Six Thinking Hats is a tool design by Dr. Edward de Bono.

The tool invites users to wear distinct, imaginary thinking hats. Each hat has a different characteristic. In this way, for example, when the user wears the white hat, their thinking has to focus only on facts trying to set aside any subjectivity.

I found this tool valuable for coaching to help the client get different perspectives from the situation they are telling. It can also be useful when brainstorming ideas. The coach's job is to guide the client with questions aligned with the hat the client is wearing. See the drawing below.
