Connecting with others involves being interested in the other as a human being. It means exploring their feelings, motivations, and concerns; understanding what is important for the other person. As a coach, the main goal in the process of building a relationship is not to prove that I am a qualified coach, but rather that I truly care about the client by demonstrating a sincere interest in their situation.

 

Showing sincere interest in the other is paramount at building trust and will help me connect with the person. This attitude of orientation to the other helps develop the relational bond between the coach and the coachee.
